Statement on Extension of Puberty Blocker Ban - November 2024

Yesterday, the Department of Health and Social Care extended the temporary puberty blocker ban to 31st December 2024.

We want to reassure patients that this extension has made no impact on the ability of Anne patients under 18 to acquire puberty blockers legally.

Lawyers have confirmed that the routes detailed by Anne allow patients to obtain medication outside the UK while avoiding criminalisation of parents and carers simply for supporting their children.

However, we are also continuing to develop alternative avenues for families to obtain puberty blockers if the law changes and further restrictions are imposed.

We are disappointed that the ban on this necessary and internationally recognised healthcare for trans youth is still ongoing.

We urge Wes Streeting to take this additional time to recognise the harms the ban has, and will continue to have, on this already marginalised group, and encourage him to listen to trans youth and their families.

You can find out more about our legally compliant route to accessing puberty blockers for under 18’s here
