Our Stories

Anne is very personal to both Susie and Lizzie, who have had to navigate sources of gender affirming healthcare for their loved ones.

Susie supported her transgender daughter, Jackie, to access care over 17 years ago when the NHS refused to medically treat any young person under 16. She sought private healthcare via the Boston GEMs clinic with Dr Norman Spack. Since then, she has supported thousands of young people and their families through her work at the support charity Mermaids as a parent, then trustee, and then from 2016 to 2022 as CEO. As a member of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health and a contributing member of the Children's Chapter for the globally authoritative WPATH Standards of Care Version 8 (SOC8), she brought her decades of experience in this field to bear, representing young people and their families.

Lizzie has supported the transition of loved ones and having spent the last 15+ years living openly with HIV, used her expert patient expertise to support system change for the benefit of under served communities’ health & wellbeing. Lizzie has over 10 years of experience supporting LGBTQ+ youth and their families as CEO and founder of Think2Speak, and as a Non Executive Director of The Love Tank.

Both Susie and Lizzie are passionate about helping people access the care they need when they need it. Anne is committed to offering timely, evidence-based care, support, and advice through counselling, education, and medical interventions. Our primary goal is to facilitate safer access to gender-affirming care for trans+ individuals of all ages. For information on our Memberships, head to our Memberships page.

While Anne is a fee paying service, in the long term, by operating as a non-profit, we aim to provide low-cost care to those in financial need, making our services accessible to people regardless of their economic situation.  If you would like to know more, or would like to donate to provide subsidised care for trans+ people, head over to our Donate page.

Why Anne?

Lizzie’s aunty Anne was there for her, to listen and lend her support when she was at her lowest point and everything felt hopeless. This is a recurring theme we have heard time and again from parents who just want the best for their child and who all too often feel they have nowhere to turn.

We all need an Anne in our corner, we will be the Anne in yours.

Anne was founded by Susie Green and Lizzie Jordan who have supported thousands of trans people and their families in their previous roles at Mermaids and Think2Speak. They launched Anne in response to the lack of adequate healthcare options for trans+ people in the UK.

Our vision is a future where trans+ people feel seen, heard, and respected throughout their healthcare journeys.
