In The News: Anne Health’s Commitment to Gender-Affirming Care

At Anne Health, we’re happy to have been featured in The Sunday Times, highlighting our mission to provide legal access to puberty blockers for families across the UK who need them most. In the article, Susie Green, Co-Founder of Anne Health, provided a statement in response to questions about our services. We were proud to be able to reinforce our commitment to offering timely and compassionate care to trans+ youth under 18, including a legal route to accessing puberty blockers.

When asked to comment for the Times article, Susie Green gave Times journalist, James Beale, the following statement:

"We are proud that Anne Health is the only UK healthcare provider offering timely, compassionate, gender-affirming care for trans+ youth under 18, which includes a legal route to accessing puberty blockers. As noted on our website, we are open in our criticism of the Government for extending the ban on puberty blocking medication for trans youth, as this is having a devastating impact on young people and their families. As we are not a charity, we are free to speak openly about the failings of the Cass Review and will continue to advocate for better healthcare for trans+ people of all ages in the UK."

Trans charity’s ex-chief boasts of ‘legal route’ for puberty blockers - The Times, 28 Oct, 2024

At a time when access to gender-affirming healthcare is increasingly restricted, we believe that no young person should be denied the care they need. Our service is designed to provide a safe and supportive pathway for trans youth to access puberty blockers, offering a vital option for families who would otherwise be left without support. By not operating as a charity, Anne Health retains the ability to speak openly about the shortcomings of the Cass Review and the Government’s policies, which have unfortunately led to the extension of the ban on puberty blockers.

This ban has had a profound and devastating impact on many young people and their families, creating barriers to essential care that many had hoped would be more accessible. That’s why we remain committed to advocating for a future where healthcare decisions are made based on what is best for each individual’s needs rather than being influenced by political agendas.

Speaking Up for Trans+ Voices

We hope that Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, will hear the voices of the young people and families impacted by these restrictions. It’s critical that policymakers listen to those directly affected and work towards creating an inclusive healthcare system that supports the well-being of all, rather than prioritising ideological stances over evidence-based care.

At Anne Health, we will continue to stand with trans people of all ages, offering gender-affirming healthcare and advocating for their rights to receive the care they deserve. Our mission is to provide a compassionate and informed approach to trans healthcare, ensuring that our patients can access the support they need through every step of their journey.
