At Anne, we help families navigate these safe and legal options, supported by qualified medical professionals.

While we don’t prescribe or supply puberty blockers ourselves, we can guide you through the process.

What are puberty blockers?

Puberty blockers, also known as hormone blockers, are medicines called gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues. They’ve been used safely for decades to treat gender dysphoria in young people, as well as to delay puberty in children who start developing unusually early (precocious puberty).

These medicines work by temporarily pausing the physical changes of puberty, giving trans young people time and space to explore their gender identity without the added stress of unwanted bodily changes.

Learn more about puberty blockers in The Love Tank’s guide to puberty-suppressing hormones.

Legal access to puberty blockers in the UK

In 2024, the UK government introduced a permanent ban on prescribing puberty blockers to anyone under 18. However, it’s still possible to access these medications legally through alternative routes.

Please note that we don’t set prices or handle purchases directly.

How much do puberty blockers cost?

Puberty blockers are given as an injection, usually every three or six months.

Prices for the three-monthly injections start at around £200, and prices for the six-monthly injections start at around £500, though the exact cost can vary depending on how you access them and any related service fees.

We’ll explain all costs in detail during your intake process, so you know exactly what to expect.
