At Anne Health, we are committed to supporting the trans community and advocating for access to life-saving gender-affirming healthcare. Recently, our Founder & Director, Susie Green, wrote an open letter to Wes Streeting, urging him to lift the current ban on puberty blockers. This ban has created an unbearable situation for trans youth and their families, causing deep distress and long-term harm.

For many parents, the fear for their children’s futures is palpable. We have heard heart-breaking stories of families grappling with the severe consequences of this temporary ban: deteriorating mental health, self-harm, and the overwhelming fear of losing their children to suicide. Some families, devastated by the lack of support and care, have made the difficult decision to leave the UK altogether, seeking a safer environment where their children’s needs are prioritised.

We included some of the statements made by distraught parents in our letter to Wes Streeting, and share some of their comments here, in the hope that they will be heard, and that the temporary puberty blocker ban will be lifted.

The reality is clear: puberty blockers are life-saving for many trans youth. They provide the vital time and space young people need to explore their identities without the distress of undergoing unwanted changes. Parents across the country are desperate for policymakers to understand that this issue goes beyond politics; it is about the health and wellbeing of their children.

You can read Susie Green’s full letter here and we invite you to stand with us in calling on Wes Streeting to end this harmful ban. These young people are not political pawns—they are individuals who deserve respect, care, and the freedom to live authentically in their affirmed gender.
