Blood Tests and Health Checks

Keep yourself healthy

Access accurate IV blood tests easily, reliably, and tailored to your needs through our partnership with a specialist phlebotomy clinic. Your healthcare team, including an experienced endocrinologist and medical professionals, will recommend the specific tests that best support your health and transition journey.

Every blood test is personally reviewed by the doctor or healthcare professional managing your healthcare plan. All blood tests include a follow-up on email or, if needed, an online appointment. This gives you the chance to go through your results together and make any adjustments to your care. It’s all about ensuring your health is in the best possible hands.

Blood Tests and Health Checks - Anne Health - Transgender Healthcare

Are blood tests included in my membership?

Yes! If you’re on a Standard membership or Youth membership, all the blood tests you need are included for the entire length of your membership. This applies whether you’re just starting or are years into your transition.

If you’re on the Transfer 12 membership, Transfer 24 membership, or the Pre-Medical membership, blood tests aren’t included in your plan. However, we’ve arranged competitive rates with our partner clinic, making it easy and affordable to book tests through Anne Health. The cost depends on the specific blood test you require and levels being monitored.

We also offer a Self-Medicating Harm-Reduction Service for self-medicating trans+ people who aren’t under medical supervision. This service is supplied at cost and includes an online meeting or email review with a qualified medical professional.

Why choose venous blood tests?

We only offer venous blood tests, which are considered best practice and most reliable method for blood testing. While finger-prick tests are popular, they’ve been shown to provide inaccurate results. Many people face issues with insufficient samples, tainted results, or needing to re-purchase and retake tests. Finger-prick tests are also unsuitable for trans+ patients using hormone gels or spironolactone.

We prioritise accuracy and efficiency and have partnered with a phlebotomy clinic with locations across the UK that provide expert, medically supervised venous blood testing. If you’re anxious about needles, we understand—it’s a common concern. We can help make the process as stress-free as possible with tips, exercises, and options like local anaesthetic creams.

The process…

Here’s how it works when your doctor or nurse requests blood tests:

  1. We’ll send your details and the required tests to our partner clinic.

  2. You’ll get an email with information to schedule your appointment with our partner clinic.

  3. A phlebotomist will collect your blood, and the sample will be sent to the lab for analysis.

  4. Once the results are ready, you’ll be alerted to book a follow-up meeting with the doctor or nurse who ordered the tests.

  5. Your healthcare professional will personally review the results with you via an online appointment or email—whichever works best for you—and discuss any adjustments to your medication and healthcare plan.

FAQs

  • It depends on your healthcare plan. We’ll guide you on the right schedule based on your treatment and transition goals.

You can read more about typically expected schedules in our example patient profiles here.

  • Blood tests help track hormone levels, liver and kidney function, and overall health to ensure that gender-affirming healthcare treatments are effective and overall health is maintained.

  • In addition to testosterone and oestrogen we also monitor diabetes, kidney function, liver function, cholesterol levels, blood clotting, anaemia, infection, or other blood disorders.

While not all of these are monitored in every blood test, we ensure that members undergo regular monitoring in line with their healthcare needs.
