Parents and Trans Teens Speak Out: But Wes Streeting ignores them

Trans teens ‘begged Wes Streeting not to ban puberty blockers’ weeks before ban - Metro - 1st January 2025

In this powerful article published in Metro news, a parent of a trans teen shares her experience of meeting with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, alongside other parents and their trans kids, just weeks before he implemented a permanent ban on puberty blockers.

These families courageously told their stories, hoping to shed light on the lives of trans youth and the real-life impact of life-saving gender-affirming healthcare. Despite hearing their heartfelt appeals, Wes Streeting imposed a permanent ban on hormone blockers (but just for trans youth) anyway..

Susie Green, co-founder of Anne Health, responded to this heart-breaking development, commenting in the Metro article:

"He ignored them to pursue a political agenda. Politics has no place in healthcare, and the state-sanctioned damage that has been done will be laid at his feet.’"

At Anne Health, we are here to support trans+ youth and their families, providing the care and understanding they deserve in these challenging times.

We will continue to amplify the voices of those affected by this heartless restriction on essential care for trans youth, and push for a healthcare system that puts people first.
