How does Anne Health compare to GenderGP?

Service Model: Anne Health vs GenderGP

Anne Health and GenderGP are both membership subscription based services, with a monthly fee. Anne Health offers a number of different membership packages tailored to age, and support needed based on where the patient is in their transition journey. All subscribers to GenderGP pay a basic fee to be a patient, then add on all additional services at additional cost.

Both Anne Health and GenderGP are also telehealth providers, delivering services remotely, rather than in person. However, there are key differences.

  • Anne Health has real people who respond to patients and the public on the phone, email, and via the #AskAnne webchat service. Anne Health also ensure that real, qualified experts personally review patient records, test results, and medication recommendations.

  • GenderGP runs on an AI driven ‘telematics’ model using AI algorithms, where patients input data into online forms for an AI ‘bot’ to evaluate and respond. This includes responding to general questions, as well as evaluating blood tests and prescription recommendations. If patients want to speak to a member of the GenderGP admin staff for help or advice, this is charged for at an additional cost.

Sign Up Process: Anne Health vs GenderGP

Both Anne Health and GenderGP have a similar Registration Fee cost of £200 and £195 respectively.

While Anne Health membership is for a minimum 12 month period, GenderGP has no fixed end date. However, there have been a number of reports of GenderGP patients finding it difficult to cancel their subscriptions, and resorting to contacting their bank to do so.

At Anne Health, the number of intake appointments vary from one to three, depending on individual circumstances, age, transition status, and if there are any additional health issues to consider. Intake appointments are conducted by one of our qualified counselling team and are based on a gender-affirmative informed consent approach. At Anne Health, all intake appointments are included in the initial Registration Fee and are at no extra cost.

GenderGP requires a single 45 minute “Information Gathering Session” with a GenderGP advisor - This is at an additional cost of £65. GenderGP works on an informed consent model - in practical terms this means being given links to the GenderGP ‘knowledge base’ to do personal research.

In comparison, GenderGP membership doesn’t include any of these services as part of their membership. To have a similar level of service, this is what it would cost:

🔴 £80-£165 every time you want to speak to the doctor at GenderGP

🔴 £50-£100 every time you want to speak to a nurse at GenderGP

🔴 £9.95 every time you want to get a prescription at GenderGP

🔴 Surgery referral letters are £185 each and gender marker letters are £55-£75 at GenderGP

Blood Tests: Anne Health vs GenderGP

One significant difference between Anne Health and GenderGP is the blood tests offered. GenderGP only provide cheaper finger-prick blood tests with results reviewed by AI algorithm.

In comparison, Anne Health only offer intravenous blood tests, which includes results reviewed by a qualified professional. Finger-prick blood tests have been shown to be not as reliable in measuring key indicators, particularly kidney function and oestradiol levels.

Medical Oversight: Anne Health vs GenderGP

Both Anne Health and GenderGP use internationally based medical doctors. Anne health refers to medically qualified doctors, including an endocrinologist with over two-decades experience specialising in gender-affirming healthcare. With Anne Health, all patients have a doctors appointment and agree a personalised care plan prior to prescriptions being issued. All blood tests are personally reviewed by the prescribing clinician as part of due diligence and safeguarding.

With GenderGP, prescribing decisions are made by the AI algorithm, based on patient responses to questions asked on the intake forms. No individual oversight by a qualified medical professional is provided as standard; patients need to book and pay for an appointment if they wish for this level of oversight. It is unknown what credentials the doctors possess who sign prescriptions for GenderGP.

Prescriptions: Anne Health vs GenderGP

Both Anne Health and GenderGP provide private digital prescriptions for medication. These can be used to purchase medication from a pharmacy in the UK or EU at a cost set by the pharmacy.

Shared Care: Anne Health vs GenderGP

Anne Health will provide a shared care agreement, including a full summary of patient care requirements, to the patient or their GP upon request. UK GPs may agree to provide blood tests and/or NHS prescriptions under the instruction of the overseeing medically qualified doctor.

GenderGP issues a standard treatment plan to the patient with no named doctor, for the patient to send to their GP if they wish.

Under 18’s Treatment: Anne Health vs GenderGP

Both Anne Health and GenderGP provide puberty blockers and HRT to under 18’s.

GenderGP requires just one capacity to consent session for under 16’s or a standard intake session for over 16’s before providing access to medication.

Anne Health typically requires 3 intake sessions with a qualified counsellor to capture a full social, psychological, and medical background, along with ensuring capacity to consent and family support. All required intake sessions are included in the membership package.

Provision of Puberty Blockers: Anne Health vs GenderGP

It is currently illegal for UK pharmacies to fill non-NHS prescriptions for GnRH puberty blocking medication.

Both Anne Health and GenderGP facilitate access to clinicians who issue prescriptions for GnRH Puberty Blockers for under 18’s. This medication can be legally obtained and collected in person from a country in the EU and brought back into the UK by the patient.

GenderGP patients and their parent/carer must find an EU pharmacy willing to dispense this medication. No additional support or guidance is provided.

Anne Health facilitates access to a network of contacts outside of the UK to assist families with the entire process of obtaining puberty blockers. This removes the need for families to find an EU pharmacy.
