Seeking support for your trans+ child? Under 18 and looking for gender affirming care?

Then hello, you’re in the right place. Welcome to Anne.

Gender affirming health care

for trans+ children and young people

Anne is dedicated to supporting trans+ youth of all ages, and their families, ensuring that they receive access to essential, safe, compassionate and evidence-based gender-affirming healthcare in a timely manner.

Anne was founded by Susie Green and Lizzie Jordan who have each supported thousands of trans young people and their families in their CEO roles at Mermaids and Think2Speak. They launched Anne in response to the lack of adequate healthcare options for trans+ young people in the UK.

Patients who are under 18 will need the support of a parent, carer or guardian to be able to access Anne’s services.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We have secured a legal route using a network of families in Northern Ireland. The medication is prescribed, if appropriate, by the endocrinologist. The prescription is then sent to a provider, who then despatches it to NI. You must then travel to collect the medication, and the patient named on the prescription must bring it back on their person, or you may decide to administer the medication whilst in NI.

  • The reason we facilitate access to EU prescribers is because although we had UK doctors that were interested in working with us, they were advised by their professional bodies that because we support under 18s that they may be challenged, even if they did not work with those patients themselves.

The UK provision of trans healthcare for all ages is broken. We could have secured UK clinicians if we had only worked with those of 18 and over, however we felt that this would leave the most vulnerable without support, which we were not prepared to do.

  • If your child needs or wants access to talking therapy, we offer this at an additional cost of £75 per 50-minute session. We also provide relationships and family therapy at the same rate.

  • If your GP will not do blood tests for your child, we can facilitate this via our partner Nationwide Pathology. They have clinics all over the UK.

  • We can share the notes and recommendations including prescriptions with the GP, with permission. Our system allows us to email them as part of the process, if that is required.

  • Our intake process is mandatory for everyone to satisfy our need to establish competency and understanding of the risks and benefits, regardless of their previous pathway. However, we try to minimise this for people transferring from another provider. For those under 18, it is usually a minimum of 3 appointments with a therapist before the referral to our doctor. However for young people who are transferring we say a minimum of 2 and this should be all that is needed barring any concerns.

We then do a catch-up at 4, 8 and 12 months with a member of the therapeutic team. This is not talking therapy; it is more of a check-in.

  • The endocrinologist will advise on the medical pathway. They have over 20 years of experience in this field, and their knowledge is invaluable to you and your family. They will not prescribe 'to order'; however, they will listen to your concerns and consider them.

  • Yes Anne is a tele health service.
